UNSW hosted PLuS Alliance leaders and other health and education collaborators from the UK, United States and Australia met in Sydney in July to for a series of meetings to discuss innovation, sustainability and digital education.
The Presidents of the three institutions also met for their bi-annual Executive Committee meeting to ensure the progress of the newly-established cross-border higher education initiative in its articulation, to date, of its strategy.
The Alliance brings together key thinkers, researchers and collaborators from Arizona State University, King’s College London and UNSW Australia to lead discussions and open dialogue around issues from climate change and disease epidemics to cybercrime and terrorism, finding the solutions to global challenges. It offers cross-border, online, postgraduate opportunities at each of the universities for learners wishing to experience expertise at Alliance partner institutions.
Professor Ian Jacobs, President and Vice-Chancellor of UNSW Australia and one of three PLuS Alliance leaders, welcomed his colleagues to Sydney for three days of talks and discussions. Professor Jacobs was especially delighted to welcome audiences to the inaugural PLuS Alliance Global Talks Symposium: Innovation and Technology in 21st Century Healthcare and Higher Education.
Professor Sir Malcolm Grant, Chairman of NHS England and Chancellor of the University of York, delivered a presentation focusing on the importance of innovation in global health “Reflections on technology and the transformation of healthcare: the case of the NHS”.
Dr. Michael Crow, President of Arizona State University and one of the three leaders of the PLuS Alliance, delivered a compelling argument on global education using the ASU model as a starting point for to illustrate its success in equitable and inclusive education, “Global lessons from designing the new American university”.
